There are only three more sleeps until The Last Jedi and we know we’re going to spend them dreaming of Porgs. If you need a treat for the theater, these are the cookies to make this week.
We made these using our favorite sugar cookie dough and icing recipe from The Dahlia Bakery Cookbook. They are mostly butter, so you know they are going to taste amazing. Feel free to use any recipe you love. Once the dough is ready, use the force, a rolling pin and your Darth Vader cookie cutter to create an army of Porg shapes.
We found it easier to pipe the frosting with a template, so we used a couple of random (pumpkin and butterfly) cutters to stamp the lines. You could also certainly use Vader for some of the arcs and a spoon for the all important Porg frown.
After the cookies have baked and cooled, we outlined the head, wings and mouth with royal icing (recipe also from The Dahlia Bakery Cookbook). Then we thinned the icing a bit with water and “flooded” the shapes. After the flooded icing dried, we piped the eyes (very big!). We used gel food color and made a light orange/peach color for the head, a very light grey for the wings and black for the mouth and eyes.
Finally, once all of the icing was really dry, we wrapped up our pesky Porgs cookies. We hope you have as much fun making these as we did!
